ChiGivesBack Hosts MLK Jr. Day of Service at W.H. Brown STEM Magnet School

In honor of Dr. King’s leadership legacy, ChiGivesBack (CGB) hosted a Day of Service at the William H. Brown STEM Magnet School, under the direction of Principal Latoya Lyons. A group of 122 volunteers assembled to help paint two murals and to also organize the schools book and computer room. CGB was joined by members of the Chicago Police Department 12th District and other community leaders.

Keila Strong and Wanaki Shores Navata served as the lead artists for the project. Keila painted a mural that included a travel theme to encourage students to explore the globe. Wanaki painted a mural in the schools teachers lounge, which included images of peaceful natural environments, to boost the teachers safe haven and break room.

The event was supported by local restaurant services leader Peter Chi Au, Chicago French Press Coffee and Jet’s Pizza. To view photos from the event, please visit the full photo album: 2019 MLK Jr. Day of Service.
